Tianfeng Securities said, power battery recycling as lithium battery post-cycle industry, demand is expected by the industry chain boom conduction and year by year, is expected in 2030 China's total power battery retirement volume is expected to reach 38.03 billion watt hours, 2021 to 2030 ten years CAGR (compound annual growth rate) up to 48.9%, the future is expected to show exponential growth. From a long perspective, the industry is now at the starting point of a long boom cycle.
Under the high boom development expectation, many listed companies have laid out in the field of power battery recycling.
"Companies are mainly through self-built recycling disposal capacity, acquisition of existing recycling enterprises and other forms of layout of power battery recycling business." Wang Xuelei, power battery analyst of Shanghai Steel Union's new energy division, told the Securities Daily.
In 2015, Ningde Times entered the power battery recycling field through the acquisition of Guangdong Bump. in 2018, Ningde Times signed a strategic cooperation memorandum of understanding with SAIC, and the two sides intend to further deepen cooperation and explore joint promotion of new energy vehicle power battery recycling and reuse.
In addition, listed companies such as BYD, Huayou Cobalt and Ganfeng Lithium have started to lay out the power battery recycling industry.
In February this year, Changjiu Logistics also set up a new energy division, which takes auto logistics as the starting point and explores the provision of comprehensive services such as logistics, warehousing, power charging and battery recycling for customers in the upstream and downstream industry chain of new energy vehicles.
Gu Ning, deputy general manager of the new energy business unit of Changji Logistics, said in an interview with the Securities Daily: "For many years, Changji Logistics has been doing service work around the car, and has accumulated many host factory resources. In addition, the company also has a strong advantage in 4S stores, and 4S stores will be an important power battery recycling channel in the future, although the current traditional 4S stores are still serving fuel cars, but in the future will gradually shift to the field of new energy vehicles."
According to Tianfeng Securities, there are three mainstream business models in the power battery recycling market: the model with the battery manufacturer as the main recycling body; the model with the vehicle manufacturer as the main recycling body and the model with the third party as the main recycling body.
The market is favorable, the policy is favorable, the power battery recycling industry is booming, and the amount of social financing for battery recycling enterprises has increased significantly since this year. But the industry in the process of rapid development of the problems that emerged can not be ignored, "small workshops" is one of the important features of the current industry development.
Gu Ning told reporters that there are currently more than 30,000 power battery recycling enterprises, but the industry white list currently only 47 companies, but this number is increasing year by year. Industry "small workshop" too much, the industry needs to improve the degree of regulation.
"At present, the state has not yet monitored the whole life cycle of the power battery, many new energy vehicle owners now just to sell the old car at a high price, did not take the formal channels to deal with the vehicle." Jiangxi New Energy Science and Technology Vocational College of New Energy Vehicle Technology Research Institute Director Zhang Xiang told the Securities Daily.
In addition, the "price inversion" due to individual traders "hoarding" is another feature of the industry development.
Due to the above reasons, many power battery recycling companies have to face the problem of difficult profitability.
"At present, most companies have not yet achieved profitability in the battery recycling business. In many industry head companies, battery recycling is not the main source of revenue, but only an auxiliary business. However, there is a lot of market space for power battery recycling in the future." Zhang Xiang said.
To avoid the phenomenon of bad money expelling good money, Qi Haishen, president of Beijing Teyi Sunshine New Energy, said in an interview with the Securities Daily: "The industry needs to quickly strengthen the training of retired battery specialization, standardization and scale of talent and institutional construction, battery fine recycling and efficient processing, etc. also test the ability of enterprises to understand the battery industry and the depth of the degree. Overall, power battery recycling is a labor-intensive, technology-intensive and capital-intensive special industry, the efficient recycling of rare metals inside the battery has a crucial role in the sustainable development of the battery industry, balancing new market prices, etc. Especially with the upcoming retirement period of ternary batteries installed, the industrialization, scale and business model of the battery recycling market are in urgent need of established and sound."
In lithium carbonate as the representative of the rising price of lithium salt products, industry chain development is uneven, so that the "waste" power battery regained life, can be said to kill two birds with one stone.
Talking about the future development pattern of the power battery recycling industry, Wang Xuelei said that in the field of secondary utilization, enterprises with strong innovation ability in business model are more likely to win in the competition. However, in the field of resource recycling, smelting and processing enterprises with capital advantages are more likely to win, and the strong will always be strong. In addition, the recycling rate of lithium still has more room for improvement, and companies with leading technology are more likely to gain an advantage.
"Battery manufacturers and automotive manufacturers to enter the recycling industry has a strong advantage of waste sources." Cheng Ling, on the other hand, believes that for the battery factory and car factory with comprehensive utilization capability is expected to further improve the integration layout, and thus optimize the production cost; with the policy and recycling network continue to improve, the existing third-party recycling enterprises through deepening cooperation with the battery factory and car factory to protect their own recycling waste sources, relying on capacity, customers, technology and other advantages to establish a leading position.
